Members of the Board of Directors of PASYNO Cyprus represented the union at the 13th Commonwealth Conference titled “Nurses & Midwives Improving Healthcare.”
The conference took place in Malta, between March 8–9, 2019.
Board members of PASYNO, Christos Christodoulou, Petroula Paraskeva and Stella Ilia, had the opportunity to hold a private meeting with the General Secretary of the Malta Union of Nurses and Midwives, Mr. Colin Galea.
During the meeting, the two unions exchanged views regarding employment status and other issues concerning nurses and midwives in both countries.
A common finding was that in both countries governments are proceeding with similar changes in the healthcare system, particularly regarding the management of public hospitals. The two unions expressed similar concerns about certain changes, such as proper hospital staffing and the coexistence of Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors remaining in the public sector with those who will be employed under the terms of the autonomous organization that has undertaken hospital administration.
It was agreed that the two unions will remain in contact for the exchange of views.
